Terms

These terms cover this website and the news list on it. They are short because there is very little to agree about here: nothing on this site is bought, logged into or uploaded. The Adrift app has its own terms, and the shop has Spreadshirt's. Neither is this page.

Who you are agreeing with

tryadrift.com is operated by Simon Berriman, sole trader (freelance), based in Leipzig, Germany. Full details are on the Impressum. German law applies, and nothing in these terms removes a right you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in.

What this site is

A description of the Adrift app, and a place to download it. The screens shown here are captures from a running build; the illustrations of water, currents and finding are drawn to explain how it works and are not records of anything that happened. The figures in the ocean section are real aggregates and are described where they appear.

Nothing here is a promise that Adrift will keep working the way these pages describe, or that it will stay available where you live. We may change how it works or stop running it.

The news list

Joining costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It gives you no standing in the app and no advantage in it, and we may close the list at any time.

We use your address to tell you something worth knowing about Adrift, now and then, and nothing else. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and you can leave whenever you like. What we do with the address is set out in the Privacy policy.

Please only submit an address that is yours. The confirmation step exists because addresses get typed in by other people, and submitting somebody else's wastes their time.

The shop

Adrift merchandise is sold by Spreadshirt, not by us. The shop page here is a page of writing with two links on it; the shops are theirs. When you buy something, your contract is with Spreadshirt and not with Simon Berriman. Their terms, their prices, their delivery times, their returns and their cancellation rights apply, and they are who to write to if a parcel is late, wrong or never turns up.

Nothing sold there gives you anything inside the Adrift app. There are no extra bottles, no additional reach, no priority, no badge and no change to where anything drifts or who finds it. This is a rule about how Adrift works rather than a policy we might revisit: the app does not know the shop exists, and buying is not a way to get an advantage over somebody who did not.

We may change what is in the shop, or close it, at any time. If we do, orders already placed are still Spreadshirt's to fulfil.

Using the site fairly

Please do not:

• script, automate or flood the signup form
• submit addresses that are not yours
• try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or its endpoints
• copy the site's design, text or artwork and present it as your own

We rate limit submissions and may block traffic that behaves like an attack. If we do, and you were a person rather than a script, write to us.

What belongs to whom

The Adrift name, the design of this site, its text and its artwork belong to Simon Berriman. You may link to the site and quote from it in the ordinary way; you may not pass it off as yours or use the Adrift name for your own product.

The two typefaces the site uses, Archivo and Inter, are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 and belong to their authors.

Nothing submitted here is published

The only thing this site accepts from you is an email address, and it is never shown to anybody. There is no comment box, no profile, no upload and no public content, so there is nothing here for us to moderate.

Availability and liability

This is a free website. It is provided as it is, we do not guarantee it will be available or uninterrupted, and we may change, suspend or take it down at any time, including the news list.

We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and for injury to life, body or health. For simple negligence we are liable only for breach of a material contractual obligation, and only for foreseeable damage typical of this kind of agreement. Liability is otherwise excluded. Mandatory statutory liability is unaffected, and because this website is free and nothing is bought on it, the practical scope of any of this is small. It does not touch a purchase you make from Spreadshirt, which is governed by their terms and by your statutory rights against them.

Changes to these terms, and to the service

We may update these terms as the site changes. The date at the top says when this version was written. We may discontinue this site or the news list; if we discontinue the list, we will delete the addresses on it rather than keep them for something else.

What these terms do not cover

The app, and everything that happens inside it: what you may write in a bottle and what happens if somebody reports one, how photographs are handled, how position is used, how a bottle can be removed, and what moderation looks like. Those are the app's terms, not this page.
